Summary of The Grand Ferdinand Hotel
When you're arriving at your hotel and you pass by some of the most iconic hotels such as the Ritz Carlton, you know you're in the right spot. The Grand Ferdinand is located on the Ringstrasse and is in walking distance of all the iconic monuments and landmarks of Vienna. When you enter the hotel you’re overwhelmed by its lovely scent and you're impressed by the elegant taxidermied horse just in front of you which acts as a reminder of the time when wealthy and influential people used to travel by horse and carriage in Vienna. The staff greeted us very kindly and we were even given an upgrade to a business suite which was a big plus.
We were lucky to have a room on the 6th floor offering a spectacular view over the city. Our room was really trendy with all necessary amenities. The bed was so comfortable and we both slept like babies. The rainfall shower was also amazing (something I find very important).
Breakfast is also one of the wonderful aspects of the hotel. It's served on the top floor so you have a wonderful view over Vienna. As it was winter we ate inside but I can imagine how nice it must be during the summer on the terrace next to the pool. Breakfast consists of a buffet with extremely fresh and healthy products and you can also ask for cooked eggs to your taste. We fell for the eggs benedict and they were so good. It's 20€/person if you book in advance or 29€/person if you pay at the hotel.
Now let me get back to the pool... Despite the cold weather I found it too tempting not to have a quick dip. It's not every day that you get to swim in a pool with wonderful views like these. The good thing about the pool is that it's open all year round and the water is heated. Even so, I wasn't able to spend hours in the water when it was 0°C outside...
I have nothing to criticise about the Grand Ferdinand - the rooms, the amenities, the service, the food - everything was up to scratch and I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Vienna.
