SUMMARY OF Castello di Vicarello
Secluded on the top of the Tuscan hills, Castello di Vicarello is a historic 12th-century castle built in stone with hectares and hectares of gardens full of cypresses, olive groves, lavender and vineyards. The property offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills and on a clear day you can even see the sea from a distance. As soon as you enter the gates and drive down the dirt track road to the castle you are in awe with the ideal setting and untouched surrounding nature. There are two beautiful outdoor pools to relax by - one infinity pool by the castle with stunning views over the valleys and another hidden pool surrounded by olive trees.
The hotel has 9 suites each with their unique rustic and luxurious design, with one suite having its own private steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. We stayed in the Giardino Segreto Suite which is laid out on two levels with the master bedroom (king size Baldachin bed and antique wooden furnishings) and ensuite bathroom (bathtub and walk-in shower) on the top floor and a large living room on the bottom floor with a terracotta stove, comfortable leather chairs, sofas and access to a private garden with a seating area and wonderful views.
Castello di Vicarello is family run hotel providing the utmost kind and attentive service whilst at the same time being smooth and discrete. The owners pay attention to every little detail and go out of their way to make you feel at home. Together with the staff they really want to transmit the history of the Estate and their core values. One prime example is the food - most of the vegetables come from the property’s vegetable garden and all other produces are sourced locally. The Estate has its own organic olive oil and Tuscan (award-wining) wine from the olives and grapes of the property. I loved the fact that at breakfast and dinner everyone eats at the same long wooden table and that there is a limited menu which changes every day ensuring that everything is in season. We ate so well and hadn’t had such a delicious homemade breakfast at a hotel for a long time…
The hotel can be enjoyed in a different way during each season so you’re guaranteed to have a wonderful stay at any time of the year. We went at the end of March and it was a perfect time to enjoy the warm sunny days by the pool, lunch outside in the courtyard and a lovely dinner by the fireplace in the evening. The hotel also offers an array of activities, such as cooking classes, wine tastings, wellbeing treatments and massages. If you’re looking for a peaceful and relaxing romantic escape in Tuscany spent tasting delicious local food and wine then you will love Castello di Vicarello. I can assure you that you will have a magical experience (FYI - we met a couple who had been touring around Tuscany and they told us that this was by far their favourite hotel).
