SUMMARY OF AdAstra

Located in Florence’s authentic Oltrarno neighbourhood on the south side of the river Arno, AdAstra is an 18th-century palazzo boasting the largest private garden in Europe. The hotel has 12 rooms spacious in the main historic family mansion and 2 premium double rooms nestled in the private garden. AdAstra is more than just a traditional hotel, it’s a unique bed & breakfast where you will feel at home in Florence. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, they gave me lots of local restaurant adresses, meaning that I had some amazing dinners in Florence.

Each room is designed in a unique way by architects Francesco Maestrelli and Marco & Matteo Perduca taking you back to the Italy of the 50s, 60s & 70s. I stayed in a deluxe double room “Room 5” overlooking Via del Campuccio, with its high ceiling, blue quirky decor, freestanding bathtub in the room, lego constructions and other playful items on the walls. The king size bed was very comfortable and the street is quiet however I could hear a sort of ventilator noise coming from a small window next to the room entrance which kept me up a bit at night…

You can enjoy breakfast every morning in the mansion’s grand salon with its floor to ceiling windows, glossy wooden parquet, stunning glass chandelier and wonderful frescoes on the ceiling. On a sunny day you can also make the most of the outdoor terrace and have breakfast with a stunning view over the private garden. Breakfast is a small buffet with an array of home-made pastries and cakes, farm eggs, local Italian cheeses and hams, fresh juices & fruit, as well as cereals and yogurts.

If you prefer to stay in a quiet residential area rather than in the city centre that’s bustling with tourists, then you will love AdAstra. In less than 5 minutes you can reach the beautiful Giardino di Boboli and the Palazzo Pitti by foot. It’s only a 15-minute walk away from the city centre and all the renowned monuments. Oh, and just to let you know, you will be neighbours with the Marquis of the property who lives on the ground floor! I don’t think you will be able to top that off anywhere else in Florence…
