Lulu Escapes' Won its First Blogging Award

🏆 I'm over the moon to know that Lulu Escapes has won its first blogging award - the Liebster Award!

It's a blogging award that is given from one blogger to another. A special thank you goes to Carly from Light Travels for nominating me. Carly started her blog nearly two years ago and she focuses on budget travel sharing her best tips on how to make the most of travelling whilst at the same time saving money.

I launched my blog in May this year and I feel as though I've already come a long way and I've met some wonderful people since. It means a lot to receive such recognition, and it comes at a wonderful time just before Christmas! This definitely gives me the motivation to continue writing more on my blog and sharing all of my adventures around the world. Thank you to everyone for your kind support.

Here are my answers to Carly's 11 questions:

1. What’s your favorite destination in the world?

Ibiza. Without a doubt, this magical island is my favourite place in the world. I've spent every summer there since I was a child and I even lived there during my teens so it has a special place in my heart. It has some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been too and it's full of charm. As I know my way around, there are lovely restaurants that I enjoy going back to every year, especially those ones on the beach where you can eat delicious fresh fish or a paella.

2. What’s number 1 on your travel bucket list?

Bali. There are of course lots of places on my bucket list but Bali is on the top of my list. I've seen so many wonderful photos and heard great things from friends of mine that have been there. I've not yet been to Asia so I think Bali would be a nice place to start. The beaches and the rice fields look out of this world!

3. What’s the most unique/memorable travel experience you’ve ever had?

Sleeping in a thermal glass igloo in Lapland. I love being in the wild but also having the basic comforts so when you can bring the two together it's the best. I had read about these glass igloos in Finland for a few years and finally I got to go this year and it was such a unique experience. We slept under the stars in the middle of a forest covered in meters of snow whilst being in the warm at the same time. If we would have seen the Northern Lights that night it would have been even more special. Despite that, I will always remember this magical experience.

4. What drove you to be a travel blogger and what’s the biggest lesson it has taught you?

I am very new to the blogging world so it's no surprise that I already had several friends who had their own blogs either in fashion or food and that's what started to get me interested in the blogging world. I am curious by nature so for me an escape is not to run away from something but to discover something new from my day-to-day life. I wanted to combine my creativity with my knowledge of travelling so creating my own travel blog was the perfect way to bring everything together.

I think the biggest lesson I've learnt since starting my blog is that you have to work really hard because it requires a lot of time and effort. Styling your blog, creating posts, taking photos, connecting with other travel bloggers, staying active on social media on a daily basis, looking for interesting projects or collaborations is all a lot, especially when you're not working on your blog full time. But if you enjoy what you're doing (which I truly am) then you will succeed beacuse you don't mind putting in all those hours.

5. What is your favorite travel blog and travel Instagram that you follow?

When it comes to Instagram, I love @gypsealust! She is always travelling to somewhere new and her photos are always so perfect making you want to dive into each one!

I would say that my favourite travel blogger is Alyssa Ramos of My Life's A Movie. She travels around the world solo and is always sharing her adventures on social media making you feel as if you were there with her. I find it very inspiring to see a woman travel to so many places whilst at the same time managing to keep up with everything and writing about it soon after on her blog.

6. What’s your number 1 travel hack you’ve learned?

Always look around! When booking flights, hotels, planning visits and finding out the good places to eat and have a drink you should always check all options. Find out what your favourite travel bloggers say about the places you’re travelling to, read reliable travel guides such as LonelyPlanet or see what other peoples' reviews are on sites like TripAdvisor. Before reserving a hotel check different booking sites but also the hotel’s website as sometimes you can find better deals. Short flights are generally cheaper on the airline’s own website but for long-haul flights, especially with multi-stops, I always use LastMinute and have always found good deals.

7. Who is your favorite person to travel with and why?

My boyfriend, because we share the same passion to explore the world and we always have a great time together. He's someone I can enjoy relaxing on the beach with whilst also doing something adventurous like skiing or skydiving. We both have international backgrounds so we love travelling as much as possible, and even more when it's together. Plus, he's the one that has the kind patience to take all the photos of me when we're travelling and together we always manage to get the desired shot.

8. What are your goals for the new year?

At the end of every year I look back on all my moments and the people I've shared them with and always feel very grateful, so my goals for next year are to continue travelling more, particularly to new destinations and to continue living unforgettable experiences. I also hope to meet a lot more other like-minded travel bloggers to share our experiences around the world. And, of course, to continue writing more for Lulu Escapes.

9. What is your favorite landscape to explore and why? Islands, desserts, mountains, cities…?

This is a hard one... I love all kind of landscapes and their diversities. I live in Paris and I'm in love with this beautiful city and I constantly enjoy wandering around its charming little streets and taking photos. But then I'm so happy to leave the city and go somewhere more peaceful such as the mountains or by the beach. As they say, the grass is always greener on the other side... I grew up on an island so being somewhere warm, on a beautiful beach with a crystal clear blue sea is heaven for me.

10. Do you have any travel plans for 2017? If so, where?

I'm going to Cabo Verde end of December with my family for two weeks and I'm really excited to discover these beautiful wild islands. Apart from that, I don't have any fixed travel plans for the new year as I tend to plan my travels at the last minute. As previously mentioned, I really want to go to Bali but also to Iceland and to the Greek Islands so I'm going to do my best to make these happen in 2017!

11. If you could see yourself in 5 years, where would you be in the world and what goals would you have achieved with your travel blog?

I think I will be living somewhere warm in a place where I can enjoy a lot of outdoor activities all year round, preferably by the sea. But who knows where in the world it will be... By then I hope to have a substantial number of posts on my blog covering all continents and providing inspiration and travel tips to my community of readers. I also hope to be working work on interesting projects with tourist offices, local travel guides, and many more.

My nominees

In turn, I nominate for the award these three inspiring travel bloggers:

  • Selena of Find Us Lost, who travels around the world with her fiancé, because I admire her work. Together they post amazing photos on Instagram and their blog is full of interesting posts with detailed reviews and recommendations about each destination they travel to.

  • Christine of Tour de Lust because she was one of the first travel bloggers to support my posts on Instagram when I started my blog. She lives in San Francisco and has a lovely blog where she shares all her tips and recommendations, especially food-related. The style of her posts have even been an inspiration for my own tailored blog posts.

  • Nadine of Blonde Seahell who lives in Bali. She shares everything you need to know about Bali on her blog which she started just over a year ago. We have connected well on Instagram and, where Bali is number 1 on my bucket list, I hope to meet her in person when I go there.
