Catching the sunrise on a hot air balloon in Australia
It had always been a childhood dream to fly on a hot air ballon and this dream finally came true in Australia with Hot Air Balloon Cairns.
I had arranged for my fight to leave at sunrise which meant a very early pick up in the morning - 4am to be precise. We were each picked up from our respective accommodations and then taken to Mareeba where we waited for the exact departure location to be confirmed by the pilots.
The first flight was actually postponed due to heavy wind and I was worried that ours would get cancelled all together. But thankfully the wind died down and we were able to fly. We were given a safety briefing before going up and then all got into the big basket. There was 20 of us all together I believe and I was surprised by how many of us actually fitted in the basket of the hot air balloon as I imagined it to be a lot smaller.
The takeoff and flight on the hot air balloon were incredible. As we flew in the sky gliding with the wind it was really relaxing and the picturesque views over the Atherton tablelands, rainforest mountains and fields were just stunning, especially as the sun was rising.
This was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend Hot Air Ballon Cairns for their fantastic organisation, ensured passenger safety and kind friendly staff. I shall cherish this memory forever and it's definitely something you'll want to do when you're visiting Carins.
Have you ever been on a hot air balloon before?
