When I say Paris, you say Eiffel Tower!
The Eiffel Tower, also known as “La Dame de Fer” (The Iron Lady) by the French, is located on the Champ de Mars and is 324 meters tall making it the tallest structure in Paris. You can spot this emblematic monument from nearly any point in the city.
Can you believe that when Gustave Eiffel designed and built the Eiffel Tower in 1889 it was criticised by renowned artists and intellectuals of the time who even protested to have is construction halted? Thankfully that didn’t happen and it soon became part of the French culture and is now visited by millions of people every year, making it THE most visited paid monument in the world!
This is obviously one of the first places that you will want to visit in the French capital and, for those of us who are familiar with Paris we find it as impressive as the first time we ever laid eyes on it.
Here is my list of the 10 best close-up spots to view and get amazing shots of the Eiffel Tower:
You can get a wonderful shot from the Palais de Chaillot and the Gardens of Trocadero. Remember that it gets extremely busy during the day so if you want a clean shot then you should go early, preferably at sunrise.
2. Avenue de New York
Between the Pont d’Iéna and the Rue Beethoven you have a splendid view of the Eiffel Tower across the Seine.
3. Port Debilly
Just next to the Pont d’Iéna you can access the pathway next to the Seine by going down some stairs from the Avenue de New York. It’s a great spot to picture the Eiffel Tower next to this beautiful bridge and especially if you want to capture some lovely reflections in the water.
4. Eiffel Tower Carousel
You will find this iconic carousel on the corner of the Quai Branly and the Pont d’Iéna. I find that the carousel gives a lovely magical touch to the photo.
5. Avenue du Président Wilson
Just above the steps of the Rue de la Manutention next to the Palais de Tokyo you can catch the Eiffel Tower peeping over a block of Parisian apartments.
6. Champs de Mars
Where else to see the Eiffel Tower than on the Champ de Mars where it’s located? This is the perfect spot to get a close up shot of the Iron Lady with some trees and plants to give your photo a touch of nature. It’s particularly beautiful in the spring when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
7. Rue de l'Université
Go on the side that is closest to the Champ de Mars to catch an amazing photo of the Eiffel Tower just behind these wonderful buildings.
8. Rue de Monttessuy
This is another narrow street where you can get a good shot of the Eiffel Tower with some more recent buildings to give your photo a bit more of a contrast.
9. Square Rapp
The little courtyard at the end of the passage is really charming and it will give a real Parisian flair to your photo of the Eiffel Tower which is only a short distance away.
10. Rue Saint-Dominique
From the end of the famous rue Saint-Dominique on the corner with the Boulevard de la Tour-Maubourg you can get a good angle of the Eiffel Tower. Try zooming in as much as possible to get a nice close-up shot of the top.
What is your favourite spot to view the Eiffel Tower?
