A Backstage Jazz Experience with Airbnb

Airbnb’s new experiences are a great idea. In addition to being able to stay at someone’s home to feel like a local, we're now able to do things like a local or get to know more about local activities going on in the cities we visit. The jazz themed experience in Pairs is great if you enjoy live music (and jazz of course).

We started off on the Friday night with a live jazz concert at the Sunset/Sunside which is a really popular Jazz club in Paris. We saw the Yonathan Avishaï trio and they were really good.

Our second event on the Saturday was a live recording session at La Maison de la Radio for the "Jazz sur le vif" programme. I never knew you could actually go to the French radio station to listen to live concerts so this was a great discovery for me. The session started at 5.30 pm and we listened to two different jazz groups until 8pm. We particlularly loved the Manuel Rocheman Trio for their original and lively performance.

The weekend ended with a lovely brunch at La Bellevilloise. This little gem is hidden away from the center of Paris and has a beautiful spacious indoor area with real olive trees. In addition to serving a delicious buffet brunch they have live music and on the day we went there was a young duo singing and playing the piano (Barbie Camion). The atmosphere is really nice for a relaxed Sunday afternoon.

The best part of this experience though were our hosts - Amandine and Caroline were really sweet and offered us some useful tips on the current Jazz scene in Paris and even gave us a personalised playlist of songs they thought we’d each like which was really kind (Caroline is a singer herself).

I truly recommend this experience and any of the other ones offered by Airbnb depending on your interests and passions because it's great way to see something different in a city and meet nice people.
